In reply to the discussion: Trump says Zelensky 'should have never started' war with Russia [View all]blue-wave
(4,564 posts)guarantors of Ukraine's security and sovereignty. They guaranteed Ukraine's sovereignty and security when they signed the Budapest Memorandum. These countries are: The United States, Great Briton and Russia. Russia has broken the guarantee with the illegal invasion of Ukraine and it appears as though the United States is ready to break its' guarantee. Why would any ally ever trust either party again? This might very well split our alliances.
Another point that I do not see discussed anywhere:
In 1932-33, Russia starved to death (genocided) millions of Ukrainians in the Holodomor. The Holodomor took place primarily in the Donbas region of Ukraine. This is one area of Ukraine Russia presently illegally occupies.
In 1944, the Russians genocided the Crimean Tatars in Crimea. Crimea is also presently illegally occupied by Russia.
When Russia had those areas depopulated of the native population, they then settled those areas with ethnic Russians. In my opinion, giving Russia any or all of those areas is an endorsement of genocide. Why? because throughout Russian history, it never mattered if the government of Russia was Czarist, Soviet or as is today, federated. Russia has always looked upon brutal occupation and depopulation as a means to expand their imperialist ambitions. Just look at the way they have conducted the war against Ukraine, with the hollow, bombed-out, apocalyptic looking cities and towns. Putin then went on to have illegal annexation ceremonies in Russia to somehow try and convince the world that those areas are now part of Russia.
