She and Joe are close and she would be aware of his skillset. It'd be in CA so the media exposure of him wouldn't be viewed so cynically by voters.

Newsom is moving up and rightfully might not want the exposure, but who knows, sometimes pushing a negative hard enough turns it into a positive. Hunter deserves sympathy and forgiveness for what he endured. Maybe Newsom would recognize that and provide him with a redemption arc and shot at a productive political life. When a person is genuinely good--despite the media narrative to the contrary--sometimes voters reward that loyalty and honesty.
