5. Alcohol is always my choice for if they don't like it or such, they can always give it away as a future gift too.

Alcohol does last a while too, and doesn't spoil. And if they don't drink anymore, take it back and give them the money instead, they won't be offended (or they won't say anything to you and give it away quietly later and no one will be the wiser).

Now, in an exception, I used to give homemade wine and Jack Daniels to my Mom and Dad, until I found out that my alcoholic brother drank all of the Jack Daniels, so I stopped buying the alcohol for my parents because of that, just gave my folks the money instead, and they could get what they wanted, when they wanted.
