Car alarm went off and I had to call AAA [View all]
Last night I made a quick store at a local liquor store to get some lottery tickets. When I tried to start my car, a 22007 CR-V,
the car alarm went off beeping, beeping, and beeping. I was pressing the buttons on the key fob but no luck. I tried starting the car to see if that would solve the problem but it didn't. Fortunately, I keep a small, adjustable wrench in the car so I popped the hood and undid the negative terminal to the battery hoping that would work. Of course, it didn't. I referenced the car manual and it didn't have anything in it about disabling the car alarm. After re-trying the negative cable a couple of times I called AAA who came out about 30 minutes later. I explained the problem to the mechanic and he asked for my keys. He reattached the negative and put the key in the driver's door and the beeping stopped. Who knew that putting the key in the driver's door was the answer! The mechanic tested my battery and said it was "perfect" which it should be since I replaced it late last year.
I'm putting a note in my owner's manual so if this happens again I'll know what to do.
Anyone else have this problem with their car and if you did what did you do to solve the problem?
