I used the furniture company's 12-months-same-as-cash deal. A co-worker told me how she had paid her furniture from this company off three weeks early and they kept hounding her for more money, so I paid it off a month early. Sure enough, I got a letter (with a 34 cent stamp on it) from them saying that I still owed a penny and if I didn't pay that penny within five days, I would have to pay over $200 in interest from day one. I called them up and told them I had paid it off to the penny and didn't owe them anything and that's the last I ever heard about it. The company later went out of business.

This was back before companies that had same-as-cash deals didn't give you a minimum amount to pay every month; you paid how much you wanted whenever you wanted.
