2. Yep. Those lookouts are on federal recreation and some state recreation rental programs.

This photo is of a working lookout tower that I staff during fire season .. 24/7, all summer long. I've been doing various lookouts since 2009: Oregon, Arizona, and Idaho.

I live in the tower all season. I haul water up in 8 gal. (40#) containers. I can cook on the propane stove. Heat is propane. But everything else is run off of solar battery banks. And, yes .. the tower definately sways in the wind. I have been in fire towers during 100 mph wind storms, incredible lightning storms, and blizzards. I'll be 77 this summer .. it keeps me young-ish.
